Many countries will have a completely different climate by the end of the century, experts warn. The weather is gradually changing climate zones, and humanity must prepare for this change. The classification of climate zones in the world was introduced by the German-Russian climatologist Wladimir Köppen in 1884 and is still used in a slightly modified form today. It is based on 5 main climate zones: tropical, arid, temperate, continental and polar. However, what was valid before will no longer be valid - certain regions of the world may have a completely different climate by 2100, reports IFL Science. However, the climate is changing, and new research suggests that 38 to 48 % of all countries in the world will end up in a different climate zone in 50 to 80 years than they have been in so far. Scientists expect this trend to accelerate every year.
The change will also apply to Slovakia
In general, the models predict an increase in the tropical and arid regions of the world and a significant decrease in the polar regions with a transition to temperate and continental regions. However, these changes will not be evenly distributed across the world and some regions will be affected more, others less. The change will also affect Europe, including Slovakia. Within the framework of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6), 80 to 90 % of all regions of Europe could be located in a different climate zone. (Veronika Salayová)
