British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's recent U-turns on some of the UK's key climate commitments expose the hypocrisy of developed countries on climate change. They make grandiose promises at global meetings, but they don't talk at home. Sunak is a prime example. Among other things, he announced earlier this month that the UK would push back the crucial date for the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030 to 2035. More announcements are expected over the next few weeks as the beleaguered Tory leadership desperately tries to catch up with Labor in the polls ahead of next year's general elections. Sunak, who insisted the country would still reach its net-zero carbon emissions target by 2050, said he wanted to take a "more pragmatic, proportionate and realistic approach".
