Bananas, avocados, tea, cocoa, cashews and canned tuna could become scarce in the coming years due to climate change disappear from the shelves of European supermarkets – and therefore from our tables. This is the alarm raised in recent days by the British newspaper Guardian, which cites a report edited by the famous NGO Christian Aid, which has always been committed to fighting poverty and inequality in the United Kingdom. According to the study, more than a fifth of the food products preferred by English consumers – and Europeans in general – would be at risk, since the main exporting countries (from Brazil to Vietnam, from Colombia to Kenya) are among those seriously affected by the consequences of the climate crisis. Some of the effects have already been felt: earlier this year, for example, the supply of tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, peppers and citrus fruits in the United Kingdom was suddenly interrupted by a drought that affected a large part of the harvest in Spain and Morocco.
