IMF and World Bank officials said Thursday they want to work more closely together in the face of the “existential threat” posed by climate change as the G20 summit in India approaches. “Climate change is a threat to global peace, security, economic stability and development,” International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and World Bank President Ajay Banga said in a joint statement. In the face of this “existential threat of climate change,” the IMF and the World Bank “must help all (their) member countries integrate their climate and development goals,” they affirmed. The G20 summit, which brings together 19 countries and the European Union, is meeting in New Delhi on Saturday and Sunday. It is part of a four-month cycle of major negotiations on global warming that will culminate in the UN conference (COP28) in Dubai in late November. (AFP AGENCIES)
