Human activity is the biggest driver of climate change. So what can people do to address the causes of climate change and keep each other safe in the midst of heat waves, floods, and wildfires? OK. Many people call what we’re experiencing now the new normal—you know, heat waves, floods, wildfires. But the phrase new normal assumes that we’ve reached some kind of equilibrium, that this new reality is as bad as it gets. That’s not an accurate picture, because humans are still pumping greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, and that’s predicted to make the types of heat waves and floods we’re seeing today even more frequent and severe. So how quickly can we curb this trend, and how prepared are we to adapt to these extreme events? (AILSA CHANG)
