CO2 is not the only greenhouse gas contributing to global warming The best known greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide (CO2). In 2021, it represented almost 80 % of the volume of all greenhouse gas emissions in the EU. Other greenhouse gases are present in smaller amounts in the atmosphere, but can have a greater effect on global warming. For example, methane represented 12 % of the impact of greenhouse gas emissions in the EU in 2021.
