In order to combat climate change, the European Parliament adopted the so-called European Climate Law, which changes the EU's target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 from 40 % to at least 55 % and makes climate neutrality by 2050 legally binding. The Climate Law is part of the European Green Deal, the EU's plan to achieve climate neutrality. To achieve its climate goal, the European Union has come up with an ambitious package of legislation known as "Fit for 55". It contains several interlinked revised laws and new proposed laws on climate and energy.
