European Union officials warned on Thursday that climate change is increasing the risk of mosquito-borne viral diseases such as dengue fever and chikungunya in Europe. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control said that as Europe experiences a warming trend, with heat waves and floods becoming more frequent and intense, and summers longer and hotter, conditions are more favourable “for invasive mosquito species such as Aedes albopictus and Aedes aegypti.” ((JAN M.
