Climate warming causes heat waves and dangerous forest fires, which have undergone extraordinary changes in recent history. Since the mid-20th century, their intensity, frequency and duration have increased worldwide – and these changes are happening faster and faster. Research suggests that this is simply not possible without human influence on the climate. A child born today could be 80 years old experience 30 to 50 extra hot days each year, up from about 4 to 10 days today. Southern Australian states such as Victoria and South Australia, which are already experiencing the country's hottest heatwaves, could see hot days become up to 4 degrees Celsius warmer.
