Nuclear power can become key in decarbonisation efforts

Nuclear power generation could help the world decarbonise energy as global demand for electricity grows, with pressure to "electrify everything", including transport. The energy crisis over the past year and a half has led to increased support for nuclear power in many countries, including the US, the UK and even Japan. However, negative perceptions are still entrenched and the cost of nuclear is still much higher than the cost of providing wind and solar power. What wind and solar do not currently have is stable base load capacity to ensure a constant supply of electricity regardless of the weather. Nuclear power can do this, and its low life-cycle emissions can generate additional low-emission electricity to complement wind and solar power. (Tsvetana Paraskova)
