Youth on the move for climate action

Publication “Youth on the Move for Climate Action!” is a compilation of youth initiatives in agriculture that address the impacts of climate change. It was created by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome in 2019.

  • The publication aims to highlight different access points for projects and initiatives that engage and mobilize young people. It focuses on climate-resilient capacity development, agricultural education and business advice to support decent rural employment in agriculture, as well as platforms that create alliances and networks to stimulate climate action and exchange information.
  • The publication features ten successful youth-focused or youth-led initiatives in agriculture that address the impacts of climate change.
  • The case studies are organized into five thematic areas: e-agriculture, innovation and technology, youth employment, capacity development, entrepreneurship and alliances and networks. For each theme, one FAO-led initiative and one non-FAO initiative are presented to provide a broad picture of activities being implemented worldwide at different levels.
  • The publication highlights the key role of partnerships between governments, the private sector, other international organizations and local cooperatives in achieving successful outcomes..
  • The publication is intended to serve as a promotional tool for youth networks, professionals and program managers interested in supporting youth in the agricultural sector in a changing climate.
  • The publication is intended to be useful for all who care about climate action; it is intended to motivate readers to work on building lasting partnerships.

The publication also includes perspectives from YOUNGO (the official children and youth component of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change) on youth and the relationship between climate and food. YOUNGO highlights that young people are an increasingly vocal advocacy group pushing for urgent changes to existing climate policies and legislation. Spring
