What are the consequences of the climate crisis?

This interactive infographic shows what the future could look like in 20 to 30 years – in two scenarios: one with determined climate protection and the other in which everything remains as it is. The aim is to make more tangible consequences of climate change and to highlight the urgency of climate action.

Interactive use

You can find the infographic at NABU website It is easy to use and you can switch between the two scenarios by clicking on the title.

Scenario 1: “When we finally take action”

The positive scenario illustrates what our landscape and habitats could look like if we significantly increased our efforts on climate protection and adaptation. It shows that decisive action can bring about a variety of positive effects:

  • healthy ecosystems with stable habitats for many species,
  • lower economic risks due to fewer natural disasters,
  • improving the quality of life through sustainable and adaptable infrastructure.

Scenario 2: “If we do nothing”

The negative scenario shows the consequences of insufficient climate protection:

  • increasing heat waves, droughts and floods,
  • loss of species and reduction of suitable habitats,
  • the spread of tropical diseases, as well as
  • high economic and social costs due to crop failures, damage to infrastructure and uncertain food supplies.

Scientific basis

The infographic was created on behalf of the German Union for the Conservation of Nature and Biodiversity; the scenarios presented are based on studies that examine developments in Germany and Europe (see sources in the infographic).  Co2AI
