The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) has expanded the scope of the revision of its Corporate Net-Zero Standard to refine the approach to neutralization and other minor adjustments. Corporate Net-Zero Standard from SBTi provides the guidance and tools companies need to set science-based net-zero goals. Version 1 of the standard was first published in 2021. It states that when companies reach their long-term emissions reduction target, they must neutralize any residual emissions by permanently removing and storing CO2 from the atmosphere.
