Polar bears face extinction due to Arctic warming

Polar bears living in the Hudson Bay region of Canada are threatened extinction due to climate change in the Arctic. Due to longer periods of ice absence, predators cannot hunt seals effectively, says Azernews referring to foreign media.

The publication notes that temperatures in the Arctic are rising faster than in other regions of the world. As a result, water bodies are less and less covered by ice throughout the year. In this regard, polar bears are forced to spend more time on land, traveling on the ice, while hunting seals.

Research by American scientists shows that polar bears are trying to adapt to new conditions and diversify their diet.
However, the food that bears eat on land does not provide them with enough calories compared to marine mammals. Scientists have concluded that the longer polar bears spend on land, the higher their risk of starvation. (
