The year 2023 was the second hottest in Slovakia since 1931.

The SHMÚ reports that 2023 was the second hottest year in Slovakia since 1931. The average air temperature was 9.8 °C and the highest temperature was 36.5 °C. However, the record 40.3 °C from 2007 was not reached. 2014 was even warmer, with an average temperature of 10 °C, according to Peter Kajab from the institute. September 2023 was the warmest in the history of measurements, with an average of 19.7 °C. There were 23 summer and five tropical days in Hurbanov. The global average temperature in 2023 was 14.98 °C, which is 0.6 °C higher than the average in 1991-2020. It is the warmest year since 1850, when data began to be recorded. Snow in Slovakia disappeared quickly in 2023 due to temperature fluctuations in each season, says climatologist Pavel Faško. Precipitation was much higher than in 2022. According to the SHMÚ, 2023 was the fifth wettest year since 1881, after 1926, 1937, 1965 and 2010. (tasr)
