The Davos scenarios are becoming even more pessimistic and the human footprint on global risks is even more pronounced. Disinformation is the number one global risk that experts perceive in the short term, while climate change is of greater concern in the long term. This is according to the ATS Global Risks Report 2024, which was launched today in London in conjunction with the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. The report, prepared in collaboration with insurers in Zurich and brokerage group Marsh McLennan , is based on the views of more than 1,400 global risk experts, policymakers and industry leaders who participated in the survey last September. The prediction is overwhelmingly negative in the short term and could worsen further in the long term. For 30 % respondents, there is actually a “high probability of global catastrophes” in the next two years, but this percentage increases to 66 % over the next 10 years. According to Saadia Zahidi , WEF Director General, “an unstable global order characterized by polarizing narratives and uncertainty, the worsening impacts of extreme climate events, and economic uncertainty are accelerating the development of some risks, such as those associated with disinformation.
