As companies work to reduce their carbon footprint, there's one area they may not have even considered – their digital consumption. The internet is a major polluter, accounting for two to four percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, on par with the aviation industry. The average person streams an average of five hours of content per day, resulting in the release of up to 1.57 million tons of CO2 emissions, or 0.57 billion tons per year. In response, companies are pioneering efforts to minimize the carbon footprint of streaming audio and video, demonstrating that technological advancements can be consistent with environmental responsibility.
