People concerned about climate change want fewer or no children

Climate change concerns are influencing people's decisions to have fewer or no children, with new research suggesting the reasons are more complex than uncertainty about the future. Systematic review  published in PLOS Climate analyzed 13 studies involving more than 10,000 participants – from the US, Canada, New Zealand, European and African countries.   A study led by researcher Hope Dillarstone of University College London finds a link between greater concern about climate and a desire to have fewer or no children, revealing reasons that go beyond concerns about how climate change could affect children's lives. Other factors include concerns about the environmental impact of having children and concerns that they will contribute to overpopulation and overconsumption. Some have characterized their choice not to have children as part of a “climate strike.” (Petra Stock).
