'Stop the madness' of climate change, says UN chief

UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Monday called on the world to “stop the madness” of climate change as he visited the Everest region of Nepal, where melting glaciers are putting entire communities at risk of extinction. Nepal has lost almost a third of its ice in 30 years, with glaciers melting 65 percent faster in the past decade than in the previous one. "The roofs of the world are collapsing,"  he said the UN chief and warned that the "complete disappearance of glaciers" is even greater.  "Glaciers are ice reservoirs - they supply fresh water to over a billion people here in the Himalayas. As they shrink, so do the rivers," he added.
