Long periods of drought are damaging native trees, which is why new species are now being tried – including in the region. The country is looking for new tree species: Climate change is also leaving increasing signs of climate-related damage in the forests of the Sigmaringen district. Therefore, the conversion of the forest with climate-adapted tree species is an important and necessary task in forestry. In the initial afforestation area north of Menningen, forester Lena Wibbelt and her colleague Jeremias Böhler from the forestry department of the Sigmaringen district office made a significant contribution – and planted a wide range of native and non-native tree species.

Douglas fir, red oak, and Japanese larch are well prepared for climate change.
