A weekend of climate protests is planned in 54 countries around the world. The long weekend of climate change protests began on Friday with a march in Vienna and a roadblock in The Hague. Organizers said 20,000 people marched in the Austrian capital, while in its Dutch counterpart, police used water cannons to disperse a roadblock by protesters from Extinction Rebellion. Protesters in Vienna held signs demanding higher taxes on CO2 emissions and an end to meat consumption. The protests — led by several mostly youth-based, local and global climate groups and organizations, including Greta Thunberg’s Fridays for Future movement — have taken place in dozens of countries and hundreds of cities around the world.
