How your food contributes to climate change

Efforts to mitigate climate change will fall short unless we reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the global food system, a sector responsible for one-third of all human-produced emissions, according to a recent study. The study suggests that consumption of beef and dairy products in fast-growing countries such as China and India are major contributors to increasing emissions in food supply chains. Meanwhile, per capita emissions in developed countries, where diets are already rich in animal products, have fallen. The United Nations projects that an additional 70 percent of current food demand will be needed to feed an estimated world population of 9.1 billion by 2050. (UNIVERSITY OF BIRMINGHAM)
