Never before has there been so much clear data on global warming. Yet we fail to change our habits. The “nudge method” is one way to change our behavior in the long term. We have choices: in the cafeteria, in the supermarket, when planning a vacation – and even though we know that vegetarian food would be more responsible than sausage, berries from Switzerland more sensible than pineapple from Central America, and a train journey more climate-friendly than long-haul flights, which we oppose. The reason is that automatisms are deeply rooted in us and are not so easy to change. We say nice things about ourselves. So are we just ignorant? Or is our brain boycotting our behavior?
