August 2023 will end with a widespread and prolonged heatwave across much of Europe. After southern Europe recently broke its all-time heat records, a new severe heatwave is set to intensify this week. It will spread to western and central Europe over the weekend and peak next week. Europe has been experiencing near-average temperatures recently. The heatwave continues over Turkey and the Middle East, while the rest of the continent gradually warms up again after the early start of the month. (Marko Korošec)
