10 ways to reduce your personal carbon footprint

As you’ve probably heard, climate change and global temperatures are on the rise. Our carbon sinks, like Canada’s forests, are burning, and it’s no time to sit back. Human-caused temperature change from burning fossil fuels is warming the planet at an alarming rate. The latest IPCC report declared that the expected increase in global temperatures will be 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Every decade since 1880, temperatures have increased by 0.08°C. These catastrophic measurements are only getting worse and could be reflected in society’s carbon footprint. (Danielle Meyers)

  1. Take public transportation, walk, bike, or scooter
  2. Try going vegan for a day
  3. Turn off the lights before leaving.
  4. Use a reusable water bottle, don't buy a plastic one
  5. Cook and pack a lunch for the day
  6. Shop locally
  7. Go through your old clothes and donate them.
  8. Hang clothes on a clothesline.
  9. Take a shorter shower
  10. Take the stairs.
