Global warming began in the mid-1970s when the increase in average global surface temperature exceeded natural variability. Every decade since the 1960s has been warmer than the one before, and 2010 was the warmest in history . However, there can be great variability from year to year. Now, in 2023, all kinds of records are being broken. The highest daily temperatures ever recorded globally occurred in early July along with the largest sea surface temperature anomaly.
