Household consumption contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions, being the largest component of final demand in the national accounting system. However, there is a clear lack of comprehensive and consistent datasets with detailed information on emissions from household consumption. Here, we extend and update the multi-level monthly carbon footprint of households in Japan from January 2011 to September 2022, combining data from government statistics and surveys. We created a dataset containing 37,692 direct and 4,852,845 indirect emission records, covering households at the national, regional, and prefectural city levels. The dataset provides critical spatiotemporal information that allows us to uncover patterns of carbon emissions, identify primary sources of emissions, and distinguish regional differences.
