To reach its climate neutrality target by 2050, the EU is taking action to reduce emissions from cars, as road transport accounts for a fifth of the EU's CO2 emissions. In June 2022, the European Parliament backed the Commission's proposal for zero emissions from new cars and vans by 2035. The interim emission reduction targets for 2030 would be set at 55 % for cars and 50 % for vans. Dutch MEP Jan Huitema (Renew Group), who drafted the Parliament's report on the revision of EU CO2 emission standards for new cars and vans, took part in a Facebook live interview in July to discuss the new emissions rules, and we have selected the most important questions and answers from the interview.
