A message The Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC)’s 2021 report reveals that the traditional steel and concrete manufacturing sector is one of the largest contributors to carbon emissions, accounting for around 39 per cent of total global emissions – 28 per cent from building operations and 11 per cent from embodied carbon in building materials and structures. Australia’s $65 billion building materials industry alone accounts for 30-50 million tonnes of CO2-e each year, accounting for around 5-10 per cent of the country’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
