This decarbonized water then settles in the upper ocean layer and then reacts with the atmosphere to pull down an equivalent amount of CO ₂ .In this way, Captura harnesses the ocean's natural ability to remove CO ₂ from the atmosphere. Without Captura technology, this known effect causes increased ocean acidification, as the ocean absorbs 30 % of global emissions.
