Poor rainfall could potentially affect crop yields \u2013 particularly in the Free State, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), North West and Limpopo. This corresponds only to the physical risks of climate change. <\/span><span>In addition, developed countries&#039; responses to climate change pose a transition risk for developing economies. For example, the European Union&#039;s carbon cap adjustment mechanism introduced in October 2023 could undermine the competitiveness of South African exports if the industry does not change. If this risk were to materialize, it would further affect the poor economic performance of the country.
