Creating a green Europe"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"container-fluid article-paragraph article-paragraph-1\">\n<p><span>As we are all increasingly aware of the need to protect our environment and fight climate change, it is no wonder that many companies, organizations and governments are talking about and promoting their eco-certificates. <\/span>But have you ever found yourself questioning whether what is being claimed is true or not? Are some of these claims just exercises in greenwashing, and what are the consequences of such a situation for those who really put a lot of effort into working, producing and offering products and services that respect the environment? Greenwashing exercises have become commonplace and threaten to undermine the very foundations environmental trust and integrity. In a 2020 study, the European Commission found that 40 % investigated environmental claims in the European Union were unsubstantiated, while 53 % were ambiguous, misleading or unsubstantiated. It is allowed because of a loophole in existing laws, without any regulations on environmental claims.
