Today was a historic milestone for climate action following the agreement to operationalise a loss and damage fund to help developing countries that are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. This was the first time a decision has been taken on Day 1 of any COP and continues to build momentum that we hope will enable us to achieve our shared goals over the next 12 days. The historic decision on loss and damage will allow Parties to focus on achieving the strongest possible response to the Global Inventory and ensuring tangible progress towards the goals of the Paris Agreement.<\/p>\n
This fund will support billions of people, lives and livelihoods that are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber was formally appointed as President of COP28 before the agenda for the rest of the conference was agreed and adopted. The agenda was informed by extensive, year-long hearings by the Presidency \u2013 spanning six continents and over 50 countries \u2013 and was informed by meetings and consultations with thousands of global leaders, organizations, partners, experts and stakeholders.
