{"id":8808,"date":"2023-11-28T11:56:40","date_gmt":"2023-11-28T10:56:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.co2news.sk\/?p=8808"},"modified":"2023-11-28T11:56:40","modified_gmt":"2023-11-28T10:56:40","slug":"studies-say-there-is-no-easy-way-to-communicate-about-the-impacts-of-climate-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.co2news.sk\/en\/2023\/11\/28\/studies-say-there-is-no-easy-way-to-communicate-about-the-impacts-of-climate-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Study says there&#039;s no easy way to communicate about the impacts of climate change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a new paper titled \u201cUsing Virtual Simulations of Future Extreme Weather Events to Inform Climate Change Risk,\u201d published in\u00a0<i>PLOS Climate<\/i> &quot;, Terry van Gevelt and his research team completed part of a larger study.<\/p>\n<p><span>The paper outlines how researchers from various universities in the US, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, Nanjing and Guangzhou in China have sought to reduce the psychological distance of climate change.\u00a0<\/span><span>team<\/span><span> that they showed 3D\u00a0 <\/span><span>virtual simulation<\/span><span> of the increase in storms in Hong Kong. a representative sample of 1,507 Hong Kong residents to see if it would change their behavior and attitudes regarding climate change.\u00a0<\/span><span>\u201cThe main goal was how to communicate the risks of future climate impacts to a broad audience.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span>public<\/span><span>\u00a0, but also to other stakeholders and\u00a0<\/span><span>decision makers<\/span><span>\u00a0&quot;,&quot; said Professor van Gevelt. &quot;Traditional communication methods do not seem to be very effective in reducing the psychological distance of climate change from the mainstream.&quot;\u00a0<\/span><span>human<\/span><span> or policymaker, and so we&#039;re interested in testing a whole range of new or unconventional approaches. This is the very first part of the project that we decided to put out there to see what happens.&quot;\u00a0<\/span><span>Psychological distance refers to how important an event is to a person \u2013 the greater the psychological distance, the less important the event.
