Exploring the distributional effects of climate change at the micro level is particularly important in low- and middle-income countries, where vulnerable populations are more susceptible to its impacts.<span>\u00a0A new document published in <\/span><i><span>Environmental Research Letters<\/span><\/i><span> examines the relationship between temperature and inequality, poverty and well-being in South Africa at the national and sub-national levels, and highlights \u2013 in addition to the need for climate change adaptation \u2013 the shared <\/span><span>benefits <\/span><span>\u00a0decarbonization in reducing socio-economic disparities between affected communities. <\/span><span>The study was conducted by a team of researchers from CMCC@Ca&#039;Foscari,\u00a0 <\/span><span>strategic partnership<\/span><span>\u00a0between CMCC Foundation and Ca&#039; Foscari University of Venice, RFF-CMCC European Institute for Economics and the Environment (EIEE) and London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scientific evidence shows that climate change is already negatively affecting inequality and poverty, but the extent to which this is happening at the micro level remains relatively unexplored.
