\nThe 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP28), organized by the United Arab Emirates, begins at the Expo.<\/p>\n
\nThese two days will bring together heads of state and world leaders to address the most pressing climate issues in dialogue with leaders from civil society, business, youth, indigenous peoples' organizations and others. The summit usually helps set ambitions for the rest of the COP. In the case of COP28, it will go even further; the first ever response to the Global Assessment (GST) will be presented during the World Climate Change Summit and the Presidency will seek commitment and accountability from the highest levels of global governance on the way forward.<\/p>\n
\nClimate change is already affecting human health across the planet, from the quality of the air we breathe to the water we drink and the places we shelter. It is also a major cause of displacement of vulnerable communities, leading to increased instability that can threaten peace. The day, a first for the COP, will explore ways to provide assistance to those affected while strengthening resilience and recovery leading to increased stability.<\/p>\n
\nFinance is a critical enabler of climate action. However, global financial systems and international trade networks do not operate efficiently and fairly. Reform is needed to create a fairer and more equal playing field for the world \u2013 and especially for the most climate-vulnerable countries of the Global South \u2013 to meet shared climate goals. The day will focus on advancing this work while championing the importance of gender equality across the spectrum of climate action.<\/p>\n
\nThe world needs to rapidly decarbonize while continuing economic progress. It is important that this development takes place in a sustainable and inclusive manner to support lives and livelihoods while protecting the planet. The day will focus on a wide range of solutions from large-scale deployment of renewable energy to decarbonisation of current energy.<\/p>\n
