Life on planet Earth is under siege. We are now in uncharted territory. Scientists have been warning for decades of a future marked by extreme climate conditions due to rising global temperatures caused by ongoing human activities that release harmful greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Unfortunately, time has expired. We see the manifestation of these predictions as an alarming and unprecedented sequence of climate records being broken, causing deeply disturbing scenes of suffering to unfold. We are entering uncharted territory when it comes to our climate crisis, a situation that no one in human history has ever seen first hand. In this report, we show a diverse set of vital signs of the planet and potential drivers of climate change and climate-related responses first introduced by Ripple and Wolf and colleagues (2020), who declared a climate emergency, now with\u00a0more<\/a>\u00a0as 15,000 scientist signatories. The trends reveal new climate-related historical records and deeply relate to climate-related disaster patterns. At the same time, we present humanity's minimal progress in the fight against climate change. In light of these troubling developments, our goal is to communicate climate facts and policy recommendations to scientists, policymakers, and the public. It is the moral duty of us scientists and our institutions to clearly alert humanity to any potential existential threat and show leadership in taking action.
