With the intensification of climate change and its impacts on our environment, it is now imperative that we rethink our consumption patterns. In our Climate Tuesday, we invite you to become more convinced about the foods that are better not to put on your plate.<\/p>\n<p><span>It is no wonder that meat is the food that emits the most CO2 with 100 kg of CO2 per kilo produced. And each French person consumes an average of 135 grams of meat per day (source Credoc). If you want to replace this food or reduce its carbon footprint, there are several alternatives including legumes such as lentils, red or white beans and chickpeas, vegetables, starchy foods, tofu (derived from soy) or even seitan (derived from wheat flour).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Unfortunately for gourmets, chocolate is one of the foods that emits the most CO2: 46 kg per kilo produced. The reason is simple: cocoa is only grown in specific geographic areas, such as West Africa, Central America, and South America. In addition, its intensive cultivation greatly contributes to the deforestation of tropical forests, the green lungs of our planet. If you want to continue eating chocolate without increasing your carbon dioxide emissions, you have two alternatives. The first is to continue eating chocolate, but prefer organic dark chocolate marked as fair trade (Fairtrade, Max Havelaar) and transported by sailing ship.
