Points\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span>break<\/span><span>\u00a0But they are less clear. They are tipping points that, once reached, bring about slow changes. They set parts of the climate system into a radically different state with potentially chaotic and troubling consequences for the planet. <\/span>One such climate tipping point involves the Atlantic Meridian Overturning Circulation, or AMOC, a gigantic ocean \u201cconveyor belt\u201d that redistributes heat across the planet. According to a recent bombshell study, it could indeed be possible for this \u201cconveyor belt\u201d to stop as early as 2025, radically altering global weather patterns. The study on the AMOC, which also mentions the Gulf Stream, another current connected to it, quickly became the subject of articles with apocalyptic tendencies. The AMOC shutdown was even the subject of a movie\u00a0<em>The day after tomorrow<\/em> , which depicts a world in which much of the northern hemisphere is covered in a deadly layer of ice.
