These changes \u2013 from using more mass transit to making homes and offices more energy efficient \u2013 have the potential to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40 to 70 % by 2050. However, to achieve these large reductions, policies are needed to help drive individual change, often through government or business. However, research in the social and behavioral sciences focused on the best solutions lags behind communication about climate and its physical science. This is one of the reasons why some members of the public believe that individual actions will not have any meaningful impact.
