While ESG is primarily used for reporting and interpreting data for<!--more--> investors, ISO standards provide specific guidance on how to set up processes so that the organization actually achieves its sustainability goals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Environmental pillar (E)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This pillar focuses on how the organization&#039;s activities affect the environment and how it manages the associated risks.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iso.org\/standard\/60857.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">ISO 14001:2015<\/span> <\/a>\u2013 Environmental Management Systems (EMS):<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Goal:<\/strong> Environmental protection and pollution prevention in balance with socio-economic needs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Benefits:<\/strong> It helps reduce waste and energy, water and gas consumption, which leads to <strong>cost reduction<\/strong> and increasing profits.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Functioning:<\/strong> The organization must identify the environmental aspects of its activities and products throughout their life cycle and manage their impacts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iso.org\/standard\/66453.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">ISO 14064-1:2018<\/span><\/a> \u2013 Greenhouse gases (GHG):<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Focus:<\/strong> It provides a framework for quantifying and reporting greenhouse gas emissions (including CO2) at the organizational level.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Synergy:<\/strong> It serves as an essential foundation for effective climate management and is closely linked to energy management.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iso.org\/standard\/69426\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">ISO 50001:2018<\/span><\/a> \u2013 Energy Management Systems (EnMS):<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Purpose:<\/strong> Continuously improving energy efficiency and reducing energy consumption.<\/li>\n<li><strong>ESG link:<\/strong> It acts as a &quot;data provider&quot; for greenhouse gas inventories according to ISO 14064-1.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Implementation:<\/strong> It focuses on areas with <strong>significant energy consumption (SEU)<\/strong>, where the greatest potential for savings exists.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Social pillar (S)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The social factor evaluates the company&#039;s impact on people - employees, suppliers, customers and communities.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iso.org\/standard\/42546.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">ISO 26000:2010<\/span><\/a> \u2013 Guidelines for social responsibility:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>This standard provides guidance on how to integrate socially responsible behavior into an organization&#039;s strategy.<\/li>\n<li>It covers areas such as human rights, labor practices, and community involvement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iso.org\/standard\/63787.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">ISO 45001:2018<\/span><\/a> \u2013 Occupational Safety and Health (OSH):<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Goal:<\/strong> Improving worker safety and eliminating workplace risks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Meaning:<\/strong> It replaces older standards (such as OHSAS 18001) and emphasizes the active role of top management in safety.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00a0Human Resources Management \u2013 Diversity and Inclusion:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Focus:<\/strong> It provides guidance for incorporating diversity and inclusion (D&amp;I) principles into all management systems.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Benefits:<\/strong> It helps eliminate cognitive biases in recruitment and career growth and increases the company&#039;s attractiveness to talent (especially millennials).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Transparency:<\/strong> It serves as a tool to demonstrate an organization&#039;s inclusive capabilities through an independent audit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Steering column (G)<\/p>\n<p>This factor relates to ethics, transparency and good governance of the organization as a whole.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iso.org\/standard\/37001\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">ISO 37001:2025<\/span><\/a> \u2013 Anti-bribery management systems:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Goal:<\/strong> Preventing, detecting and resolving cases of bribery within the organization.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mechanisms:<\/strong> It includes measures such as policies for gifts and hospitality (e.g. setting limits on the value of gifts) and requires informing business partners about these rules.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Integration:<\/strong> It can be easily integrated with other management systems (e.g. ISO 9001 or ISO 14001) to strengthen an organization&#039;s overall resilience to corruption risks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Common elements of these standards in the ESG context:<\/strong> All of these ISO standards require an organization to: <strong>policy setting<\/strong>, risk and opportunity analysis, setting measurable goals, and regular monitoring and evaluation of data.
