The aim is to use smart wood technologies, innovative design and circular economy principles to build a climate-positive future of construction. The video clearly explains how TIMBERHAUS is changing the way wood is used in construction and supporting a circular, climate-positive future for the entire continent.

The construction sector is currently one of the the biggest contributors to climate change, while being responsible for approximately 40 % CO2 emissions and half of all extracted materials. TIMBERHAUS seeks to address this challenge not only by pointing out the environmental impact, but also by emphasizing a huge opportunity for systemic change.

TIMBERHAUS is a four-year project that brings together leading researchers, architects, urban planners, cities and industrialists from across Europe. Its main goal is to reconsider construction by unlocking the full potential of wood through technological and cultural innovation.

The video specifically shows how the project is developing intelligent wood technologies using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. These innovations aim to transform underutilized wood species and post-consumer wood to high-performance building materials. The project is so effective turns waste into valuable resources.

In addition to technical transformation, TIMBERHAUS also supports cultural change in how we design and inhabit buildings. Through close collaboration with communities and professionals, the project develops plans for healthy, adaptable and multi-storey wooden buildingsThese proposals are:

rooted in local traditions.

optimized for well-being inhabitants.

designed for long-term reuse and disassembly.

By creating digital tools, demonstration buildings and new public-private business models, TIMBERHAUS lays the foundations for sustainable urban development throughout Europe. Project coordinator Anders Kjellow from DTI is available for further information.

The TIMBERHAUS project is therefore more than just a technological advance; it represents a comprehensive approach to reshaping the construction sector, integrating innovation with sustainability and cultural sensitivity, towards a future where wood is a key building block of a climate-positive environment. JRi

You can watch the full video here: https://youtu.be/0a6txCwzND8.

Contacts: info@timberhaus.eu.

The TIMBERHAUS project, co-funded by the European Union, recently released a video presenting its vision and mission to transform the construction sector in Europe.
