Credits thus represent <strong>a flexible alternative<\/strong>, while helping to finance green projects in developing countries.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5>\ud83d\uded1 Benefits vs. potential risks<\/h5>\n<p><strong>Advantages:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They support <strong>projects in countries of the global south<\/strong> (e.g. reforestation, wind energy).<\/li>\n<li>They give to countries <strong>time and space for transformation<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>They help finance decarbonization where CO\u2082 savings have a greater impact.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Risks:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There could be a weakening <strong>internal pressure for decarbonisation in the EU<\/strong> \u2013 the project seems to &quot;buy out&quot; domestic pollution, instead of investing in batteries, wind or heat pumps.<\/li>\n<li>The problem is also <strong>weak or fraudulent programs<\/strong>, where credits do not lead to the expected CO\u2082 reduction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h5>\u26a1 Perfection is needed: Brazil and scientific councils warn<\/h5>\n<p>Ana Toni, President of COP30 (destined for Brazil), warns against <strong>over-reliance on credit<\/strong>Calls for <strong>limiting their quantity<\/strong> and emphasis on <strong>their real environmental quality.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the EU scientific advisory body ESABCC warns that over-reliance on credits can <strong>divert funding for green development within the EU itself<\/strong>.
