A team of scientists led by former NASA climate scientist James Hansen, who formally alerted U.S. government leaders to climate change in his 1988 congressional testimony, is working on a new study that warns of a possible short-term spike in global temperatures of 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels by 2050.
