The strategy could change the way the industry captures, transports and stores gas.\u00a0<\/span><span>An international team of scientists filled the aqueous solution of Gua<\/span><sub><span>2<\/span><\/sub><span> Sat<\/span><sub><span>4<\/span><\/sub><span>\u00a0with carbon dioxide and saw how a monocrystalline clathrate salt based on guanidinium sulfate forms under ambient conditions. Because the solution trapped the carbon dioxide without forming strong bonds with the gas, the researchers were able to simply reverse the process to release the gas again. Cafer Yavuz, a researcher at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia and one of the authors of the study, says that releasing trapped carbon dioxide has never been easier. \u201cAll you have to do is take this [resulting precipitate], drop it in water, the water dissolves the salt and CO<sub>2 ,<\/sub>&quot;he explains&quot; It&#039;s almost like the tablets we use to drink vitamin C.
