Scientists aboard a ship\u00a0<i>Sarmiento de Gamboa<\/i> observed methane plumes up to 700 meters long and 70 meters wide in the ocean, geologists Ricardo Le\u00f3n and Roger Urgeles, the expedition leaders, said in a statement to EL PA\u00cdS. These previously unknown emissions could potentially represent an environmental bomb for the planet&#039;s climate.
