Living in the interior of Canada doesn&#039;t make it any easier"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>Eighteen months ago, in the midst of climate satire blackouts\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><em><span>Don&#039;t Look Up<\/span><\/em><span> , I experienced what some people would call a climate epiphany\u2014the moment when the gravity of the climate crisis hits you like a ton. carbon emissions.\u00a0<\/span><span>Faced with the sobering reality that we have less than a decade to exhaust the remaining carbon budget to keep the planet below 1.5 degrees of warming, I was overcome with feelings of helplessness and impending doom.\u00a0 <\/span><span>The only way to combat these feelings was to do everything in my power to eliminate my carbon footprint.\u00a0<\/span><span>But I don&#039;t live in Vancouver, Montreal, or Toronto, where they have access to EV rentals, car sharing, extensive transportation systems, and extensive intercity rail and bus networks\u2014or to their slightly warmer climates. <\/span><span>I live in Thunder Bay, a small town in northern Ontario, located about 700 kilometers east of Winnipeg and 1400 kilometers northwest of Toronto.\u00a0 <\/span><span>And I found that those of us in colder, sparsely populated regions face unique challenges in our efforts to do the right thing. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>(<em>(Heather Kitching)<\/em><\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eighteen months ago, in the midst of the climate satire Don&#039;t Look Up , I had what some would call a climate epiphany\u2014a moment when the gravity of the climate crisis hits you like a ton. carbon emissions.
