To reduce humanity&#039;s carbon footprint, researchers and policymakers around the world are constantly looking for new ways to reduce atmospheric CO emissions\u00a0<sub>2<\/sub> and transform them into useful forms. Electrochemical approach of C02 reduction\u00a0<sub>on the<\/sub><span> other carbonaceous forms, such as carbon monoxide, alcohols, and hydrocarbons, has attracted much interest in this regard.\u00a0<\/span><span>In this regard, environmental researchers from\u00a0<\/span><span>Doshisha University<\/span><span>\u00a0in Japan under the guidance of Prof. Takuya Goto illustrated one such technique for CO transformation\u00a0<\/span><sub><span>2<\/span><\/sub><span> into multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) via sustainable electrochem., using molten salts.\u00a0<\/span><span>The research includes contributions from Dr. Yuta Suzuki of the Harris Science Research Institute and Mr. Tsubasa Takeda of the Department of Environmental Science and Mathematical Modeling. The study was published in the journal\u00a0<\/span><em><span>Electrochimica Acta<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0.<\/span><span>The study team used a sustainable electrochemical approach to convert CO\u00a0<\/span><sub><span>2<\/span><\/sub><span>\u00a0on MWCNTs using a LiCl-KCl melt. Molten salts were saturated with CO2 gas\u00a0<\/span><sub><span>a<\/span><\/sub><span>\u00a0the electrode was a semi-immersed nickel (Ni) substrate. At the end of the procedure, C02 is provided\u00a0<\/span><sub><span>electrochemically<\/span><\/sub><span>\u00a0turned into solid carbon. Reduction reaction at the Ni electrode\/LiCl-KCl melt\/CO2 interface\u00a0<\/span><sub><span>led<\/span><\/sub><span>\u00a0to green conversion.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) is the primary greenhouse gas produced by various human activities.
