In a new report, the United Nations has warned that the goals set out in the 2015 Paris climate agreement to keep global temperature increases below 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels appear to be out of reach with catastrophic consequences. The multi-agency report &quot;United in Science&quot;, coordinated by the UN&#039;s World Meteorological Organization, highlighted that greenhouse gas concentrations have reached record levels, leading to future temperature increases.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The science is clear: We are far from meeting global climate goals,&quot; WMO chief Celeste Saulo told reporters in Geneva.<\/p>\n<p>If current policies do not change, the report warned that there is now a two-thirds chance of global warming reaching 3\u00b0C this century.<\/p>\n<p>Saulo said 2023 was already the hottest year on record &quot;by a huge margin&quot; and the first eight months of this year followed the same trend.
