{"id":3011,"date":"2023-05-14T18:16:57","date_gmt":"2023-05-14T16:16:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.co2news.sk\/?p=3011"},"modified":"2023-05-14T18:16:57","modified_gmt":"2023-05-14T16:16:57","slug":"cruise-industry-on-track-to-meet-interim-carbon-reduction-targets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.co2news.sk\/en\/2023\/05\/14\/cruise-industry-on-track-to-meet-interim-carbon-reduction-targets\/","title":{"rendered":"CRUISE INDUSTRY ON PATH TO MEETING INTERIM CARBON EMISSIONS REDUCTION GOALS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to Clia Europe CEO Marie-Caroline Laurent, the cruise industry is on track to meet its 2030 carbon reduction targets. <span>But Laurent told delegates during a panel session at the 2023 Clia conference aboard P&amp;O Cruises&#039; Arvia on Sunday (May 14) that moving to net zero by 2050 requires &quot;even more effort&quot;. <\/span><span>\u201cOur goal of net zero by 2050 seems far away, but this is happening now,\u201d she added. \u201cBut we are on track to achieve our goal of a global emissions reduction of 40 % by 2030.\u201d <\/span><span>The acceleration towards the target has been strengthened, Laurent added, by governments adopting new rules for the installation of shore-side electricity interconnection in more European ports.\u00a0 <\/span><span>Laurent was joined on the panel by marine biologist Monty Halls and Ocean Generation founder Jo Ruxton.\u00a0<\/span><span>Halls applauded the sector for supporting more sustainable travel, but warned that customers were not prepared to be \u201ctaught\u201d about environmental policies.\u00a0 <\/span><span>&quot;You have to be subtle with your messages and get them across in that way,&quot; he added. &quot;It&#039;s going to take a while, no one&#039;s fault, but it takes a while for it to resonate with people, and you can&#039;t be too aggressive.&quot; <\/span><span>Ruxton said the \u201ceasiest\u201d environmental problem that companies can fix is the use of plastics on board ships. <\/span><span>\u201cYou don\u2019t have to be a politician or a scientist to make a change \u2013 anyone can,\u201d she advised the agents. \u201cThe impact of everyone making a behavioral change will be much more important than an individual.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>(<em>by Will Payne)<\/em><\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The cruise industry is on track to meet its carbon reduction targets by 2030, according to Clia Europe CEO Marie-Caroline Laurent.
